ONI X BLUEINGREEN TRIAL
Anyone buying new jeans from an unfamiliar company knows how much trial and error goes into finding the right fit. I could only imagine returns were not quick or cheap, therefore not really an option I wanted to explore. I had never purchased anything online from overseas before and did not know what to expect. How could I get my hands on these devils? The hunt was on!!Īfter some research I discovered that it would be much less expensive to buy directly from Japan because of the weak Yen and have imported into the US. They focus on making the best jeans in the world. There is only one retailer in the country Blue in Green and they were about 3,000 miles away. Oishi is famous for denying interviews with the top denim magazines in Japan. Oni jeans are very limited because the denim is only woven certain months out of the year. Because of his health, he cannot work in cold weather. Oishi can operate the old shuttle loom that makes Oni’s fabrics. I read the stories surrounding this mysterious company and it’s 80 year old reclusive master-weaver, Oishi-San. When I went looking for the slubby-est, and most interesting example of the qualities inherent in Japanese denim, I discovered ONI Denim. artistry and talent being applied in the mills of Okayama, Japan. The cotton quickly had a softness that makes them very comfortable to wear despite their heavy weight.Early on in my years of denim collecting, I realized I was gravitating towards the slubby/neppy/hairy texture of slow, loose weave denim. I've only owned them for 4 months but already I've noticed the fades starting in the way that is unique to such slubby material, all the raised portions of the yarn become lighter faster giving it overall more depth and variety of pattern and colour compared to a more consistant fabric with smoother fades in all the usual places.Īs others mentioned the fabric hides its weight well, perhaps the weave is looser but the yarn thicker? They are a good 6.5oz heavier than any other jeans I've owned but wore in faster. What makes these stand out from the crowd is the heavyweight and extremely slubby 'secret' fabric. Using the chat they were able to advise the correct size for me based on my existing UB201 size and measurements, when they arrived they fit perfectly.ĭenimio's excellent service aside, the jeans themselves are beautiful! The cut and detailing is pretty standard for a 5 pocket jean, with excellent construction throughout but no quirky or interesting parts.

Thanks to Denimio staff, that dream became a reality. Ever since I discovered raw denim I dreamed of one day owning a pair of Onis (there is 1 shop in my city that carries 2 brands of raw denim).
